Family and Friends

You play an important role in reentry! Keeping up with the busyness of life is difficult enough on its own. Adding to that the effort of supporting a family member or friend as they make the transition from prison to society can be time-consuming, emotionally challenging and extremely difficult.

The skills inmates rely on in prison are different from the ones we need out here. The person you care about may need help remembering patience and gratitude for all you do to support them.  They haven’t been able to make even simple decisions for so long that they may take many things for granted.  They may angry, frustrated or depressed by the challenges of depending on others and finding employment. Below we offer tips, links and information for you to

consider and utilize to help everyone keep this temporary stage in perspective.

You have one of the toughest families and most important roles in reentry. You did not commit a crime and yet you have a collateral burden to spend time, money and effort to support your family or friend.
