You play an important role in reentry! Building healthy, vibrant communities is hard work.
Do you find it difficult to understand just how you fit into the criminal justice system? Many of us have a sense that we play no role at all. The reality is we contribute - whether through inaction or action - in creating a healthy or unhealthy correctional system through a variety of ways: taxes, politics, job opportunities, neighborhood housing options, human services, creating healthy communities and building up or breaking down social barriers around former felons.
Formerly incarcerated people are among the most marginalized and stigmatized people in our society. By increasing awareness, sharing statistics, dispelling myths and offering opportunities, Fair Shake intends to demystify former
felons and return them to their rightful status as free and accountable citizens. As you may know, when prisoners are released, many return to prison. If former felons are able to stay out
of prison for three years, they stand a very good chance of staying out
for good.
On this page and many others on our site, you will be able to find volunteer opportunities, reentry in the news, community support and reintegration programs that can be replicated. Legislation also plays a key role in transforming criminal justice. You can find facts, statistics and other valuable information here to participate in this process as well!
